John Paul
John Paul Saddleton (b. 1968, Nassau, Bahamas) is an artist well known on the Bahamian art scene. His artwork is in a variety of media and is recognized easily by his ability to capture the intense light and rich colours of the Bahamian landscape. Generally working in oil, John Paul has also worked in watercolour and more recently acrylic. His current focus is on movement and flow particularly in his more abstract underwater scenes, which are built up with layers of acrylic glaze. The last few years have seen an increase in corporate work with clients from The Four Seasons in Exuma, the Meliá and Baha Mar Resorts on Cable beach.
John Paul’s paintings are a study in light, they draw on the tropical land and seascape of The Bahamas for colour and dazzling vibrancy. His comprehensive understanding of colour theory is embodied in his current work ,”hyper impressionism”, where he layers oversized coloured marks to create a scintillating sense of depth and rhythm.
